PRESS RELEASE: Four Corners Health Centre Returns to Malton and a New, Improved Home

The community health centre moves into Westwood Square after year-long displacement

Thursday, May 31, 2018  MALTON, ON – Four Corners Health Centre is bringing much-needed health care services and programs back to Malton with the opening of its new location at Westwood Square. The community health centre, which provides a range of free health services for seniors, adults, children and infants, had become a community fixture of Malton’s healthcare landscape over five short years, until redevelopment on the site of Netherwood Plaza forced the centre to move from its Brandon Gate Drive location in November 2016.

While Four Corners searched for a new, permanent location and secured the needed funding for its construction, its staff team continued to serve Malton-based clients out of the nearby Bramalea Community Health Centre, which, like Four Corners, is also part of the WellFort network of community health services in Peel region.

“We are thankful that the provincial government came through on its commitment from years ago to provide a permanent location for Four Corners so that residents of Malton can receive quality health services right in their neighbourhood,” says Mayo Hawco, CEO of WellFort Community Health Services. “It has taken some time, but we couldn’t be happier with our new and improved space. Our doors are open for anyone in the community to come and visit and find out more about what we have to offer.”

Four Corners provides primary health care services delivered by an inter-professional team of nurses, doctors, diabetes educators, health navigators, a physiotherapist, a chiropodist and a social worker to provide integrated, holistic care. Its services are available particularly for populations that traditionally face barriers to health care—whether they have health insurance or not—such as newcomers, seniors, under resourced individuals, youth and homeless or hard-to-house individuals. Four Corners also offers a range of health and wellness programming onsite and out in the community, including mindful meditation, youth programming, walking groups, and diabetes education.

“Having the Bramalea CHC and Four Corners staff together for the last year has been beneficial for us as a team in many ways, but we are excited for Four Corners to have its own space in Malton again and for this next chapter to begin. As a community health centre, we strive to be an active part of the community we serve, so it is obviously important to have a physical presence there. Westwood Mall is a vibrant and central part of Malton life, and we can think of no better place to plant our flag and say, ‘We are back in Malton and proud!’” says Hawco.

Four Corners is currently registering new patients. All residents of Malton are welcome. For more information or to register please call 905.677.9599.
